Jasna Jovicevic is a composer, saxophone and flute player from Serbia. Jasna received her BA from the Franc Liszt Music Academy in Budapest, Hungary. She also studied music in Serbia, Brazil and Austria. She has won grants to Veneto Jazz, Italy, The Banff Centre, Canada, ArtsLink, New York City and Djerassi Residency, San Francisco Artist in Residency programs. She has performed her work around Europe, USA and Canada in various national and international festivals. Jovicevic received 1st prize at the International Ethno Music Competition in Milan, Italy, 2nd price at the International Balkan Art Festival in Ljubljana, Slovenia and the 3rd prize at the Contest for Best Jazz Composition organized by the Hungarian Jazz Federation. Jasna was chosen to represent Serbia & Montenegro at the XII European Biennial of Young Artists in 2005. She moved to Toronto almost two years ago, where she is finishing her Masters in Composition at York University. Jasna has had great opportunities to play with such artists as Billy Harper, Mike Murley, Chico Freeman, Al Di Meola, Ray Anderson, Dave Young, Edgar Mayer, Cecil Bridgewater, Kenny Aronoff, Benny Powll, Szakcsi Lakatos Bela, Olah Kalman and many others. Jasna recorded an album with the Australian jazz group, The Chris Hale Ensemble at The Banff Centre, Canada in 2005. Nowadays, she is an active musician and composer in Toronto. She teaches saxophone and Cultural Studies at the York University and is currently working on her first album, which will be released in the spring 2008.
